Boca Grande Health Clinic Physicians Lecture Series - Holly L. Thacker, M.D.

The Boca Grande Health Clinic welcomed nationally reknowned author and Cleveland Clinic Women's Health expert Holly L. Thacker, M.D. In her presentation, "Be Strong, Be Healthy And Be In Charge", Dr. Thacker addressed a variety of women's health topics and issues. Her review of vitamin ABC’s was well received by everyone who attended. Dr. Thacker also joined several women in a lively discussion over lunch on Friday.

Ocean Reef Medical Center Lecture Series - Linda A. Lee, M.D.

On February 7th the Ocean Reef Medical Center welcomed Johns Hopkins Gastroenterologist Linda A. Lee, M.D. for a remarkable presentation on integrative medicine and digestive health. As the Director of Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine & Digestive Center and the Clinical Director of Johns Hopkins Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr. Lee shared her extensive knowledge on integrative approaches for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms and the promotion of optimal digestive health. Over 250 Ocean Reef residents attended the event making it the most highly attended Ocean Reef Medical Center Lecture series this season. Her presentation, Using Integrative Medicine for Achieving Optimal Digestive Health offered residents a wealth of information and Dr. Lee addressed individual questions and concerns after her presentation.
Healthnetwork Foundation’s Co-President Adam Kaufman and Vice President Paul Koomar were honored to introduce Dr. Lee. “Today’s presentation and Dr. Lee’s dedication to providing excellent care has helped many of our Ocean Reef members. We are excited to partner with her as a Healthnetwork Foundation Service Excellence Award recipient and we are glad that our members have enjoyed meeting and speaking with her. Healthnetwork Academy presents: Dr. Steve Nissen, Chairman, Cardiovascular Medicine, Cleveland Clinic

The debut of the Academy - this informational event held at the Healthnetwork offices included Dr. Nissen, a noted expert in Cardiovascular medicine, who discussed what happens “Backstage at the Cleveland Clinic.” He also enlightened the attendees - members, spouses and staff at Healthnetwork about the new technologies and treatments in cardiovascular disease. Attendees also spent some time to mingle and chat with Dr. Nissen and each other after the event as well. It was certainly a tremendous occasion to be able to ask questions of such a world-renowned expert in his field.

Cosmetic Changes of Osteoporosis

Healthnetwork recently hosted a webinar on the Cosmetic Changes of Osteoporosis with Holly Thacker, M.D., Director of Women's Health at the Cleveland Clinic. She discusses the diagnosis, treatment and preventive measure of this disease which attacks four times more women than men.

Dr. Thomas Sculco, Surgeon-in-Chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery, delivered a fact-filled presentation dispelling many "Myths of Joint Replacements" for the Ocean Reef Residents in Key Largo. The room was full of interested residents who eagerly listened to his discussion on the latest surgical innovations and post-surgical rehabilitation techniques. They also had a chance to see some examples of joint replacement implants that Dr. Sculco brought in for the lecture.

Dr. A. Marc Gillinov, Cardiac Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, spoke to a room full of Ocean Reef residents in Key Largo. His topic: "The Heart Prescription: Advances in Heart Disease." The lecture was part of the Medical Center's Lecture Series and Dr. Gillinov spoke about the relationship between the heart and three primary factors: emotional health, exercise and red wine. Residents commented that this was one of the best lectures they had ever heard.

Several hundred miles north, Dr. Robert M. Palmer, a nationally recognized geriatrician, engaged a room full of Boca Grande residents with important tips for "aging well." This lecture was part of the Boca Grande Health Clinic Physicians Lecture Series. Dr. Palmer's topic "Staying Share as We Age" was well received and some members were even spotted taking notes. Several of them were heard to say that the information was well presented and easy to understand. Many members couldn't wait to read his book to learn more tips.
