When something tragic happens, you are caught off guard and not thinking clearly.  All you need is a great resource, like Teresa, who will help you put it in perspective and get you on the right path.

In early June, my father was in the car wreck.  When I arrived at University Hospital in Cincinnati, I learned even more alarming news - my father had broken his right femur and suffered a heart attack. He is 80 years old and had cardiac stents already; it was a scary situation that required immediate attention. At that point I knew that I needed Teresa’s help and called Healthnetwork.  Despite the fact that it was a Sunday, Teresa returned my call quickly and helped me figure out a plan of action. 

While University Hospital is the region’s level one trauma center, my father’s cardiologist practices at another area hospital, The Christ Hospital.  So, we decided to transfer him to there to allow his cardiologist, Dr. Dean Kereiakes to take part in his care.  As it turned out later, it was the best decision we made.  An angiogram on Monday revealed that one artery had 90% blockage and a new stent was more of a priority than surgery for his broken femur.

Teresa was a great asset as she knows how to navigate the healthcare systems and cut through any red tape.  Everything she did had a nice personal touch. She called the hospital to make sure the right doctors were in, obtained the copies of his CT scan and personally delivered them to my father’s room.  She followed up consistently – checking in at each stage of dad’s care.

Even after my father was discharged and moved to rehabilitation facility, Teresa paid him a visit.  She made sure he was getting everything he needed.  She is now helping to arrange more of dad’s appointments. My father was treated as VIP every step of the way which was above and beyond our expectations.  I am so thankful for the care my father received and so happy to see him recover and getting back on his feet.

I have always been a big fan of Bill Rowley, the founder of the Healthnetwork Foundation. I think that everyone will need services such as these at some point and it is nice to know they are available through Healthnetwork.
