When To Get A Second Opinion

It's always well-advised to get a second opinion but CNN.com suggests that there are five diagnoses  for which it's especially important.  Figuring out how to find an expert to consult with is a little trickier.  Healthnetwork takes the guesswork out of second opinions.  Call us and we will be happy to facilitate your expert second opinion consultation.  Contact Healthnetwork at 440/893-0830 or help@healthnetworkfoundation.org.  the Number 5

According to a study by UCSF Medical Center, Healthnetwork partner hospital, those trying to get in to see a dermatologist for "potentially cancerous moles have to wait substantially longer than those seeking Botox for wrinkles."  If you need to make an appointment with a dermatologist or any specialist at one of Healthnetwork's more than 25 partner hospitals, please let Healthnetwork cut through the red tape on your behalf.  Contact Healthnetwork at 440/893-0830 or help@healthnetworkfoundation.org.

Do You Hear What I Hear

Do you find yourself straining to hear and are constantly asking people to repeat themselves? If yes, you may already know that "by age 65, nearly a third of Americans have hearing loss and 40%-50% of us will develop it by age 75," according to the National Institutes of Health.  But, again, per the NIH, "only one of five of those who could benefit from a hearing aid wears one."  If you have debated about or put off getting a hearing aid, you will want to read about the new high-tech "designer" hearing aids.

And if you are really into to high-tech solutions check out this new kind of hearing aid, still in clinical trials, that is implanted underneath the skin behind the user's ear

Hip Replacement Lite

More than 200,000 Americans undergo hip replacement surgery annually, reports the Academy of Orthorpedic Surgeons. "A procedure known as hip resurfacing, once tried two to three decades ago, is experiencing a resurgence in the U.S., thanks to improved technology." According to an orthopedic surgeon at Healthnetwork partner hospital, Cleveland Clinic,  "whereas total hip replacement replaces the entire femoral head and neck, resurfacing preserves bone and targets only the problem area. The new technique has several advantages over standard total hip replacement and is an attractive alternative for certain patients."

If you have been considering a hip replacement and want to consult with a leading specialist call Healthnetwork at 440/893-0830 or

 What's for Dinner

And while we are on the topic of food, it turns out, per a study by UCLA Medical Center Healthnetwork partner hospital, that "convenience" foods aren't all that convenient. If you have ever wondered what everyone else is serving for dinner you'll enjoy reading about a study that followed the dinner routines of 32 working families in Los Angeles.  Turns out "dinner didn't get on the table any faster in homes that favored convenience foods."
