Work Out While You Work - Literally |
You really have to see this to appreciate it, but researchers at the Mayo Clinic,
a Healthnet partner hospital, have designed the standup "walk-and-work" desk. A specially designed "vertical workstation" that can be locked in place over a treadmill, allowing employees to work at a computer while simultaneously walking on the treadmill. The "vertical workstation" is expected to cost about US $1,600 and will be available for purchase through office-furniture maker Steelcase Inc. No word yet on when they will be available for purchase.

Diagnosing Skin Cancer |

While most of us recognize the late attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. for one particular life that he "saved," soon many more lives will be saved in his memory at the newly opened Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Brain Tumor Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dedicated to researching new treatments for brain tumors and funded by donations from Cochran's family and friends, the director of the new center is Keith Black, MD, considered to be one of the top ten neurosurgeons in the world. Improved Heart Transplant Technology |
Heart transplants may soon be safer if a new Organ Care System technology proves effective. Five transplant centers which include three Healthnet partner hospitals (UCLA Medical Center, University of Chicago Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic) will be testing the machine that keeps donated organs healthier for 4 times as long as the current method of ice preservation.

Commercial Space Travel Gets Safer |
Book your reservation to travel into space with the comfort of knowing Mayo Clinic Arizona
, a Healthnet partner hospital, is on orbit to handle the medical management portion of the launch. Mayo Clinic Arizona, with one of the "largest concentrations of board-certified specialists in aerospace medicine and internal medicine" has just signed an agreement with University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Wyle Laboratories to provide comprehensive training and testing for commercial space travelers.
