Bill Steere earned both an economics degree and an MBA from The University of Michigan. After graduation, he worked for 3 years in New York City in the retailing business for Abraham and Straus, a division of Federated Department Stores.

In 1975, he returned to Akron to join Steere Enterprises, a plastics manufacturing firm started by his father in 1949. Bill held a variety of positions and was named president in 1981 and CEO in 1984. Steere Enterprises supplies individual components and complex assemblies to OEM’s utilizing a number of different molding processes. The company’s primary focus is supplying air induction assemblies to the automotive industry.

Since returning to Akron, Bill has been actively involved in the community and has held a number of leadership positions including board chair of Akron Child Guidance and Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. He is currently board chair of Akron General Medical Center. Other boards he has served include: The United Way, Summit County Red Cross, The University of Akron College of Business Advancement Council, YMCA, Rotary Club, and Summit Education Partnership Foundation.

He has been very involved with the Young President’s Organization having served as chair of the Cleveland Chapter as well as being a member of YPO’s International Board of Directors. He is also a member of Health Net which serves the various “O” organizations. In addition to his charitable work, Bill serves on the boards of 4 privately held companies.

Bill has 2 sons, Brock born in 1978, and Brian born in 1980. Bill enjoys numerous outdoor activities, traveling, and is a fitness enthusiast. He has been an avid runner for more than 25 years and ran The Chicago Marathon in 1999. Although sometimes creating more stress than it relieves, he enjoys golf whenever he has the opportunity.
